Clear + Brilliant Laser is a non-invasive fractional laser treatment designed to improve skin texture, tone, and overall appearance by targeting the superficial layers of the skin. The treatment uses Intelligent Optical Technology, which helps to optimise the delivery of laser energy for more precise results. This technology enables Clear + Brilliant to create millions of microscopic treatment zones within the skin, stimulating the body’s natural healing process and promoting the production of new, healthy skin cells. Unlike more aggressive lasers, Clear + Brilliant offers gentle rejuvenation, making it ideal for individuals looking for a subtle enhancement with minimal downtime.

The technology behind Clear + Brilliant uses two specific wavelengths to treat a variety of skin concerns: the 1440nm wavelength and the Permea handpiece with a 1927nm wavelength. The 1440nm wavelength is used for deep dermal rejuvenation, targeting fine lines, sun damage, and skin texture by creating controlled micro-injuries that stimulate collagen production. In addition, the 1440nm handpiece can also help minimise pore size, leading to smoother, more even skin. Topical numbing is optional for this treatment, depending on the client’s tolerance.

The Permea handpiece, with its 1927nm wavelength, is primarily used for treating superficial skin concerns such as uneven pigmentation, sun spots, and skin tone. The Permea treatment is typically more gentle and does not usually require numbing cream, making it a more comfortable experience for many clients.

Both handpieces use fractional laser technology, meaning only a fraction of the skin is treated, leaving surrounding tissue unharmed and promoting quicker recovery times. This treatment is suitable for all skin types and is ideal for individuals looking for skin rejuvenation without the need for invasive procedures.

What to expect during treatment

During the Clear + Brilliant Laser session, the practitioner will apply a topical numbing cream (optional for the 1440nm wavelength and typically not needed for Permea) to the treatment area to ensure comfort throughout the procedure. Once applied, the Clear + Brilliant handpiece will be moved across the skin, delivering fractional laser energy.

The 1440nm wavelength is used for deeper dermal rejuvenation, while the Permea handpiece uses a gentler 1927nm wavelength to treat superficial concerns like pigmentation. The treatment generally takes between 20 to 40 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area.

Most clients report feeling a mild warmth or tingling sensation during the procedure, which is typically well tolerated. After the session, the treated area may appear slightly red or flush, similar to a mild sunburn. This typically resolves within a few hours. Some clients may experience a slight tightening or dryness in the skin, which usually subsides in the days following treatment.

Clear + Brilliant vs. Fraxel

Clear + Brilliant and Fraxel are both fractional laser treatments that target the skin's surface to improve texture, tone, and appearance. However, they differ significantly in their intensity, depth of treatment, and suitability for different skin concerns.

Clear + Brilliant is a gentler, more superficial treatment that uses fractional laser technology to address early signs of ageing, such as fine lines, uneven skin tone, and sun damage. The treatment works primarily on the outer layers of the skin, stimulating collagen production and improving skin texture with minimal downtime. The 1440nm wavelength is used for deep dermal rejuvenation, while the Permea handpiece with the 1927nm wavelength is used for treating superficial concerns like pigmentation and uneven tone. It is ideal for individuals looking for subtle rejuvenation and maintenance rather than dramatic changes.

In contrast, Fraxel is a more intensive fractional laser treatment that penetrates deeper layers of the skin, addressing advanced skin issues like severe sun damage, deep wrinkles, and acne scarring. Fraxel uses two wavelengths, the 1550nm for deeper skin layers and the 1927nm for more superficial concerns. It is a more aggressive treatment, delivering greater results for clients seeking a more noticeable transformation, but it comes with longer recovery times and more downtime compared to Clear + Brilliant.

The primary differences between Clear + Brilliant and Fraxel lie in their depth of treatment and intensity. Clear + Brilliant is suitable for clients with mild to moderate skin concerns, seeking gentle rejuvenation with minimal downtime, while Fraxel is better suited for those with more significant skin issues or clients seeking stronger, more transformative results.

In terms of downtime, Clear + Brilliant requires minimal recovery time, typically a few hours of mild redness, whereas Fraxel may require several days of recovery due to the more intense nature of the treatment. Clear + Brilliant is often recommended for younger individuals or those in their 30s to early 40s looking to maintain their skin's health, while Fraxel is generally aimed at those with more advanced signs of ageing or visible scarring.
